Ladakh MP Is A INDIA Bloc Supporter, Meets Omar, Kharge
SRINAGAR: The newly elected Member of Parliament from Ladakh, Mohammad Hanifa Jan, made headlines on Tuesday with a series of high-profile meetings in Delhi. Fresh from his historic win, where he triumphed with a remarkable margin of 27,862 votes, Hanifa engaged in significant political dialogues, signaling possible shifts in the region’s political landscape.
In the morning, Hanifa, accompanied by the Chief Executive Councillor of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (Kargil), Jaffer Akhoon, met with the National Conference (NC) vice-president Omar Abdullah. This meeting has ignited speculations about Hanifa’s potential return to the NC, from which he had parted ways to contest the election as an Independent candidate.
The backdrop to this speculation is Hanifa’s earlier departure, along with the entire Kargil unit of the NC, in protest against the party’s decision to support the INDIA bloc candidate, Tsering Namgyal, a Buddhist candidate from Leh.
Sources close to the meeting reported that the discussions were constructive and focused on the future of Ladakh’s political dynamics. Hanifa’s return to NC could significantly alter the region’s political equilibrium, especially considering the discontent that led to his and the Kargil unit’s resignation from the NC.
Later in the day, Hanifa met with Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge. Accompanying him were the Chief Executive Councillor of LAHDC, Kargil, and President of the Congress unit in Kargil, Councillor Nasir Hussain Munshi. This meeting underscored Hanifa’s importance in the broader national political scenario and his influence within Ladakh.
Further highlighting the multifaceted nature of his visit, Hanifa also met with Agha Mehdi Mehdavipour, the representative of the Supreme Leader of Iran in India. This meeting emphasized the cultural and religious ties that play a crucial role in the socio-political fabric of Ladakh.
Hanifa’s victory over Tsering Namgyal of the INC and Tashi Gyalson of the BJP is celebrated as a historic milestone in Ladakh’s political history.
