Heritage Conservation
Jammu and Kashmir’s initiative to allocate Rs 120 crore for heritage conservation is a significant step towards preserving its rich cultural legacy. With over 100 architectural and heritage restoration projects underway or cleared for execution, this effort is expected to boost tourism and promote cultural exchange. The restoration projects include the Mubarak Mandi Heritage Complex, Shergarhi Palace, and Tagore Hall, among others.
The Culture Department is collaborating with universities to leverage expertise in conservation and design. Digitization of archives is also a priority, with millions of pages of records digitized in Srinagar and Jammu. This initiative will not only preserve J&K’s history but also make it accessible to a wider audience.
The allocation of funds and the ongoing projects demonstrate the government’s commitment to preserving the J&K’s cultural heritage. With 106 projects in the pipeline, Jammu and Kashmir is poised to rediscover its cultural heritage and promote it as a tourist destination. The preservation of heritage sites will also contribute to the local economy and provide a sense of pride and identity to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
The restoration of heritage sites like the Mubarak Mandi Heritage Complex and Shergarhi Palace will showcase the J&K’s rich history and cultural diversity.
