J&K conducts over 2,500 tests in a day
Thirty five persons tested positive for coronavirus in Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday, taking the total caseload in the UT to 701. The testing has been amplified as 2,578 tests were conducted today.
“Finally, J&K breaks the 2,000 tests-a-day barrier. Over 2,500 tests conducted in a day. New positives – 35; Recoveries – 33. Total cases now 701 (Kashmir 640, Jammu 61),” government spokesperson Rohit Kansal tweeted.
At least 846 tests were conducted at Chest Disease Hospital, 826 at SKIMS, Soura, and 906 at two labs in the Jammu division.
The fresh cases have emerged from Kupwara, which reported 11 cases, Anantnag 10, Budgam five, Shopian four, Baramulla three, while Pulwama and Samba districts reported one case each.
A majority of the positive cases, 640, have been reported from Kashmir, while 61 are from Jammu Division.
Meanwhile, amid the outbreak of this pandemic, antenatal care facilites have been badly affected in Kashmir, particularly in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, where pregnant women are unable to find doctors to treat them.
The authorities suspended a doctor and a nurse in the district today after they allegedly refused to treat a pregnant woman, who later died at a hospital. A video of her body being taken home by family members on a trolley in the absence of an ambulance went viral recently.
“Preliminary reports suggest that the body was taken away by relatives fearing they would have to wait for burial if sample was taken for Covid testing. Most unfortunate to say the least,” Anantnag Deputy Commissioner Bashir Ahmad Dar tweeted.
