LAKE OF CONFLICT
It was Amir Khan Movie of Three Idiots, which gave fame to Pangong Lake and it became one of the famous tourist spots of Ladakh region. Every year thousands of people would come to this blue lake as a reminder of their romance with this lake after the Amir Khan movie.
This time the lake is again in news, but for the wrong reasons as Chinese army has entered into the lake area and is trying to consolidate their position. The standoff between the two armies is still continuing while as Indian army along with ITBP are sending more and more troops to match the strength of Chinese troops in the area.
Chinese army according to media reports entered via three directions — Four Fingers, Hot Spring and Galwan River, but the Chinese army according to these locals has pitched in several kilometers inside at Galwan river valley and other places. There is no immediate resolution of the crises as the Chinese troops have refused to move back to their old positions. More troops were being deployed Pangong Tso and Galwan Valley the two contentious areas where Chinese army is learnt to have been going for massive build up and have entered several kilometers inside.
Chinese army wants complete halt on the work for the road and bridge especially around several key points including Indian Post KM120 along the Darbuk-Shayok-Daulat Beg Oldie road in Galwan Valley. Many locals were quoted by New Delhi based media saying that it is very serious war like situation with massive army build up on both sides.
Situation worsened on May 5, when scores of soldiers on both sides were injured after violent face-off which spilled over to the next day before the two sides agreed to “disengage” following a meeting at the level of local commanders. But local reports said that even after the meeting, Chinese soldiers were only consolidating their position in the area without showing any signs of pulling back from the disputed land.
