FRESH CHALLENGES
Killing of BJP affiliated panchayat members, followed by dozens of anti-insurgency operations and growing cases of pandemic clearly show that hands of administration are full of problems and challenges.
Despite all these challenges, Police and CRPF for protecting not only the sensitive installations but also hundreds of mainstream political leaders including ministers and lawmakers.
The fresh threat has already “burdened” police and administration to provide security and accommodation to many vulnerable local leaders of BJP in Kashmir valley. According to recent media reports that after the killing of Waseem Bari, they have shifted a lot of BJP affiliated local leaders to safe and secure places in Srinagar and other parts of Kashmir.
Recently Home Minister also passed instructions to UT administration of Jammu and Kashmir to provide all help and security for the local BJP leaders who are trying to fill the space, by the constant absence of National Conference and PDP on the ground.
While the local panchs and sarpanchs are not happy with administration, even they blame that only BJP affiliated panchayat members were having say on the ground. But many media reports suggested that the basic problem is in the approach of administration towards the functioning of panchayats in Jammu and Kashmir.
Previously politicians especially elected MLA’s were refusing to delegate powers to panchayats and delayed the entire process. Too much of power without accountability has gone into the heads of most of the senior bureaucrats in UT of Jammu and Kashmir. Like erstwhile MLA’s and ministers they are treating panchs and sarpanchs and not allowing to function freely.
