Kargil has got a special attention from the Governor Satya Pal Malik and he did not allow any agitation in this district on the perceived notion that they are being discriminated. The delegations of the Kargil have been meeting the State Governor and he has been responding positively to all their demands so far. In a recent SAC meeting, Satya Pal Malik decided to take up with the Ministry of Home, Government of India, the opening up of 17 routes/areas without insisting upon inner line permit.

Earlier he got a request for the same from many delegations of Kargil as they feel that their area was being discriminated for the tourism potential so far. Normally tourist’s book for Leh while as Kargil has huge potential for trekkers especially the routes being demanded by the people of Kargil connected with tourism trade.

The trekking routes proposed to be opened include (i) Faroona-Jasgund via Lasar La (ii) Akshow (Zanskar)-Gulab Garh (Kishtwar) (iii) Padum-Gulab Garh (Kishtwar) via Omasila. (iv) Padum-Dangale (Padder Valley) via Pot La (v) Kanore-Batambis-Sapi (vi) Sapi to Rangdum via Rusila and Wakha La (vii) Rangdum-Heniskote via Kanjila (viii) Rangdum-Padum via Pangong La. (ix) Padum-Ralakung (x) Padum-Lamayuru.

The trekking routes/areas proposed to be opened along LoC/border areas include (i) Kargil-Lalung-Shahshi Lake – Darchiks/Garkone Broq (Trekking route). (ii) Kargil-Hunderman Brok Ridge(LOC Visit) (iii) Batalik Junction to Gargardo (apricot Village) (iv)  Drass-Sumda-Marpola (Tiger Hill Base) (v) National Highway to Kaksar Village (LOC Visit) (vi) National Highway to Lato Village (LOC Visit) (vii) National Highway to Budgam-Majdass Village (LOC Visit).
