The killing of three CRPF jawans at Handwara was the latest incident of growing militancy related violence in Kashmir valley especially in North Kashmir. Anti-insurgency grid has responded by sending more troops and going for more combing operations. They have also decided to impose night curfew starting from 7 P.M in the evening to 7A.M in the morning in order to curb the night movement of militants.

Earlier J&K government responded to a petition filed in the Supreme Court to seek restoration of 4G internet service in J&K. In its response, the government said “108 terrorist related incidents” took place between August 2019 and April.

In the comparative period between August 2018 and April 2019, there were more than 450 such incidents. The numbers stood at around 300, 200 and 160 in the same period for the three years prior to that, the official data suggests.

Amid COVID-19 lockdown, there have been many anti-militancy operations going on in South Kashmir and also in Kupwara district of North Kashmir. It seems that things will be hot in the coming weeks with or without 4G services being restored in Kashmir valley.

There have been lot of appeals by students and doctors for the restoration of internet services with speed, but so for authorities have been maintaining that it will help the militancy to grow and violence to increase. But the latest encounters in Handwara have shown that violence was already on increase despite ban on internet.
