Hailstorm damages crops in Southern districts

Srinagar, May 29, KNT: Wind storm has severely damaged crops in Southern districts on Friday.

Eyewitnesses told news agency KNT that hailstorm created havoc in villages of Pulwama, Shopian and Anantnag. They said hail storm also damaged crops in Pahlagam and its adjacent areas.

The apple orchards in Pahalgam, Shangus, Rajpora, Abhama, Bagh Sangerwani, Drakladan, Achgoza, Drabgam and other villages were damaged due to untimely hailstorm.

The assessment of the total damage was not known immediately, however, witnesses said that crops suffered heavy damage.

“This year, we expected a good crop, but the hail and windstorms have not only dashed our hopes, but also left the orchardists in desperation,” said a farmer.

The hailstorm has inflicted heavy damage on crops like apple, cherry, rice saplings and other vegetables and fruits.

The locals have demanded adequate compensation from the government and district authorities for their losses. (KNT)
