Srinagar, June 13: Awantipora police on Saturday claimed to have arrested three drug peddlers and have recovered 21 kilograms of Poppy straw from their possession in Kawani Crossing in South Kashmir’s Awantipora district.
A police statement issued to KNS said, continuing its drive against drug Peddlers Awantipora Police arrested four drug peddlers and recovered twenty one kilograms of poppy straw from their possession.
Police party on naka duty at Kawani crossing found 03 persons moving in suspicious circumstances and were stopped for checking
During checking,the persons were found to be carrying/ possessing poppy straw (about 06 Kgs in weight) in bags.
All the three persons namely Ghulam Mohd Sheikh, Mohd Amin Bhat, Mushtaq Ahmad Mir residents of Kawani have been arrested.
Case FIR number 81/2020 under relevant sections of NDPS stands registered against the said arrested persons in Police Station Awantipora.
Moreover on yesterday Police Party on naka duty at Hari arrested one person identified as Mukhtar Ahmad Rather resident of Hari Awantipora who was moving in suspicious circumstances and was stopped for checking. During checking the person was found to be carrying Possessing poppy straw (about 15 Kgs in weight) in a bag.
Case FIR No.79/2020 under relevant sections of NDPS stands registered against the said arrested person in Police Station Awantipora.
Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding cultivation of contrabands in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling & cultivation of contraband substances shall be dealt strictly under law. The statement said (KNS)
