Covid-19: Elderly Budgam Man Tests Positive Day After Death, J&K Toll 62
Srinagar- A day after a 70-year-old man from Budgam district died at a hospital here, his swab sample returned positive for the Covid-19 on Monday, taking the death toll due to novel coronavirus in Jammu and Kashmir to 62, officials said.
“A septuagenarian patient from Chadoora area of the central Kashmir district with sepsis and bilateral pneumonia was admitted on Sunday and died on the same day. His swab sample returned positive for the Covid-19,” the officials said.
Earlier, an 18-year-old Covid-19 patient died, becoming the youngest Covid-19 fatality in Jammu and Kashmir.
The teenager, a resident of Handwara area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, was admitted to the Shri Maharaja Hari Singh Hospital here on June 12 as a medico-legal case involving assault, the officials said.
His swab sample for the novel coronavirus was taken the next day which came back positive, they said, adding that he died around 3 am.
He had serious head injuries besides bilateral pneumonia, they said.
With this fatality, the death toll due to the pathogen has risen in Jammu and Kashmir to 62— 55 in Valley and 7 in Jammu division.
So far Srinagar district with fourteen deaths due to the virus has the highest fatalities, followed by eleven in Baramulla, eight in Kulgam, five each in Anantnag, Shopian & Kupwara, four each in Budgam & Jammu, two in Pulwama while one death each has been reported in Bandipora, Doda, Rajouri & Udhampur.
