J&K recorded nine daily deaths in July

The J&K recorded nine Covid deaths and over 400 positive cases every day in July as 277 patients lost their lives in the month. The number of positive cases also jumped from 7,497 to 20,359 during this period.

Not only positive cases increased manifold in July, the recovery rate also dipped from 63 per cent to nearly 58 per cent. Since the detection of the first Covid case in

J&K, the first time 277 deaths were reported

in one month.

The situation is going from bad to worse in two capital cities of J&K — Jammu and Srinagar. On June 30, there were 938 positive cases in Srinagar district, out of which 320 got cured and 24 died. The number of positive cases has jumped to 4,786 on July 31 with 120 deaths.

As far as Jammu is concerned, out of total 348 positive cases 280 got cured so the recovery rate was over 80 per cent on June 30. But this rate dipped to over 53 per cent on July 31 as out of

total 1,070 positive cases 574 recovered.

In July, the highest ever 2,72,457 samples were collected. On an average over 7,800 samples were tested every day out of which over 400 cases tested positive.

Since March 9, when the first Covid case was detected, 3,65,058 samples were collected for testing the deadly virus. But in July alone 2,72,457 tests were conducted.

Not only is this death toll increasing in J&K, the spread of the virus in the remotest and

far-flung areas are another concern for

the authorities.

These areas are considered as “inaccessible” due to the poor road connectivity but the deadly virus is slowly spreading in these belts also.
