People of Leh want restoration of their lives and also easing of the restrictions they are facing from grazing of their animals to no tourism in this region. Although they were happy after the central government made it a separate union territory without legislature to be controlled directly by New Delhi but now they want safeguards for their land and jobs.

Recently a delegation of LAHDC headed by the local BJP leader met Union Defence Minister and other BJP leaders and appraised them about the difficulties being faced by the common people in Ladakh region.

They have talked in detail about the economic depression and about the suffering of those hundreds of families who used to take livestock for grazing near the eastern Ladakh border. The delegation of LAHDC has also demanded that the base of Siachen glacier should be opened for tourists so that the locals can earn their livelihood.

LAHDC spokesman has told the media in Leh that the delegation while meeting Rajnath Singh has sought bunkers for civilians living along the border especially in the backdrop of hovering war clouds. The delegation also sought permission and NOC from the defence ministry to operate JIO in Demchok where the tower is already installed.

Recently BJP won the LAHDC elections as they got 15 out of 26 seats and Tashi Gyalson was elected as Chief Executive Councilor. Giving details of their memorandum submitted to the union government LAHDC spokesman said that insurance cover, better wages for the local laborers deployed in Siachen were also demanded. They also demanded that the army should vacate 23 kanals of land at Thoise Nubra for the implementation of the UDAN scheme.
