There is no denying of the fact that tourist footfall in Jammu and Kashmir has almost vanished. Pandemic was the final straw on the back of the camel and it devastated thousands of families connected with this trade here. But the efforts of the government are on to look for the opportunities to bring back tourists back here in order to make survival of these families possible.

In this direction recently the government said that they are taking all steps to redress the issues of tourism stakeholders even as various promotional activities have been undertaken since the Unlocking for tourism sector began in Jammu & Kashmir.

Interacting with various deputations of tourism stakeholders recently, officials informed the deputations that ever since the tourism sector was thrown open in the unlocking process, the Department has initiated a series of events aimed at tourism promotion which has generated a good number of queries for the coming winter season. He said the Department is planning many such activities in coming months also as the COVID situation improves.

Terming Houseboats as the icon of local heritage, the Tourism Secretary advised the unit holders to maintain the heritage quotient of their units and not fall prey to the rush of change and modernity. He said the Department is planning events in coming months to promote this unique asset of the tourism sector in Kashmir valley.

But the houseboat owners are feeling the heat of the situation. Being without business from the past 16 months has made them simmer with anger and frustration.
