Uncertainty and agony seems to have settled in the lives of common people in Jammu and Kashmir as even after the peaceful DDC elections, arrests of political activists have restarted and the authorities are not giving much reason for such detention.

From Prime Minister Narendra Modi to LG Sinha everyone has expressed their gratitude to the people of Jammu and Kashmir for coming out peacefully to vote in this election and now the arrests are quite baffling for the common people also.

People of Jammu and Kashmir were expecting easing of every sense after these elections. They were expecting restoration of 4G services, lifting of other curbs and more space to the political activities so that grass root development can happen without any hassles.

The Jammu and Kashmir government has detained Kashmiri political leaders after the district development council polls, triggering speculations about the government’s motives. After the recent elections the fresh arrests of political leaders has triggered a fresh wave of fear among the ground level political leaders of PAGD.

Soon after the elections, senior People’s Democratic Party leaders Sartaj Madani, Peerzada Mansoor and Naeem Akhtar were taken into custody. While Madani, who is the maternal uncle of former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and Mansoor has been kept in the Anantnag district, Naeem has been lodged in the MLA guest house in Srinagar.

Days after his arrest, the police also detained advocate Hilal Lone, son of member parliament from north Kashmir Mohammad Akbar Lone. Madani, Akhtar, Mansoor and Hilal were among leaders arrested on August 5 last year2019.
