Prisons department to resume meeting facility for prisoners in J&K

Srinagar, Jan 21: The Jammu and Kashmir Prisons Department has decided to resume the meeting facility across the UT after it was discontinued last year due to the outbreak of the deadly COVID-19.

The department had also advised the family members to keep the COVID-19 negative certificates with them.

According to an order, a copy of which lies with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Prisons Department, J&K has decided to resume “mulaqat facility” in jails, which was stopped as a precautionary measure to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 in Jails.

“As per the order issued by the Directorate of Prisons J&K, inmates shall be allowed to have one interview/mulaqat with their family members in a month,” the order reads.

It reads that the number of family members should be limited by the superintendent jail in accordance with the rules.

“The jail superintendent shall ensure that necessary COVID-19 SOP’s/protocol is strictly followed,” the order reads.

It added that the family members are advised to carry COVID-19 negative test report (not older than 48 hours) with them for mulaqat purpose—(KNO)
