On Monday reports said that some Corporators of Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) locked the ‘Corporate Hall’ claiming Ward Officers and Building Inspectors have no right to occupy the ‘Hall’ exclusively reserved for them.

The newly appointed Commissioner Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) had called a meeting at ‘Corporate Hall’ to preside over a meeting of his officials when he found the hall locked by some Corporators.

According to the news agencies some of the officials of Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) told them that they were not able to enter the hall as it was locked by some Corporators.

The new commissioner had to take a meeting of his officials in order to brace up for the post and understand the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) from within did not talk to the media about the locking of the hall by some Corporators.

“We were waiting for the Commissioner, when some Corporators entered into the Hall and asked us to leave. As we left, they locked the Hall, saying it is their property and the Commissioner can’t preside over a meeting in their Hall,” a Ward Officer told one of the news agencies on the condition of anonymity.

Another Ward Officer said they faced humiliation while the Commissioner and other officials after knowing about the incident didn’t turn up for the meeting and it was subsequently cancelled.

Terming the incident very unfortunate, Deputy Mayor Parvez Qadri said that matter will be looked into.
