Srinagar-Jammu highway remained closed on Monday for the vehicular traffic and the authorities have said it will remain closed for Tuesday also.

The two closure of highway is over and above the usual Friday closure of the highway for the necessary repairs. The highway remains closed for days together especially during the wet weather.

The government has failed to keep the promise of making it a fair weather highway and the slightest wet weather forces authorities to close it for the traffic.

Authorities have been quoted by news agencies saying that the traffic was stopped at Panthayal and no vehicular movement allowed shall be allowed on 23 March in view of the forecast of heavy rains.

“Tomorrow (23-03-2021), no vehicular movement shall be allowed from either side on Jammu-Srinagar highway in view of inclement weather prediction issued by MeT department for next few days,” a traffic department official was quoted by news agencies.

He further said that there was possibility of landslides and shooting stones at several places amid continuous rainfall along the highway.

The official said that Mughal road, connecting Poonch and Shopian districts, continues to remain closed due to snow accumulation.
