Thousands joins Youm-e-Ashura processions in Kashmir

Thousands of Shia mourners on Thursday joined the processions on Youm-e-Ashura, the tenth day of Islamic month of Muharram to remember of Martyrs of Karbala.

Meanwhile, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir range, K Vijay Kumar said on the eve of Youm-e-Ashura, let us all seek God’s blessings and pray for peace and harmony. This day remainds us to uphold the high principles of human dignity and justice and spread the message of brotherhood and togetherness.

No Tazia procession was allowed in the civil lines, where security forces had closed all roads leading to Imambara Abi Guzar since early this morning. However, over a dozen mourners were taken into preventive custody when they tried to took out a procession at Gantaghar near Lal Chowk this afternoon.

Shia mourners from different parts of the city joined Youm-e-Ashura procession from Bota Kadal and culminated at Zadibal Imambara, where special prayers will continue throughout the night. Additional security forces had deployed and traffic diverted to allow Ashura procession.

Thousands of shia mourners, reciting Nauha in Kashmiri and Urdu, also joined Ashura processions in different parts of the central Kashmir district of Badgam. Similar Muharram processions were also taken out in Magam and other places.

Reports of Muharram processions were also received from Anantnag, Pulwama, Anantnag, Baramulla and other areas of the valley.
