On Friday afternoon there have been reports of fresh snowfall in many forest areas across Kashmir from Kupwara to Shopian and also the rains have lashed the plains making the life difficult for common people with cold showing the signs of winter.

Already traffic authorities are closely monitoring the situation on Srinagar-Jammu highway due to the rains, but the snow has forced the government to close traffic on Mughal road due to the slippery conditions near Pir Ki Gali.

Reports of fresh snowfall are coming from Keran, Karna and Macchil areas of Kupwara district and the government as a precautionary measure has closed the vehicular traffic on many internal routes of these areas in Kupwara.

DTI Mughal Road Qasam Choudhary told GNS that traffic was halted on the road amid snowfall. He said that the road will be reopened once the snow is cleared.

The historic road was opened for all types of vehicular traffic on July 5 this year. Prior to it, the road was only allowed to be used for ferrying perishable items, mainly fruits.

Meanwhile, Traffic movement in some far-flung areas of Kupwara including Keran, Karna, Macchil, Jumagund, Budnambal and Kumkadi was either restricted or suspended in wake of the snowfall and inclement weather, the officials said.
