Jal Jeevan Mission, a program started by the central government is being implemented in Jammu and Kashmir on a massive level. Recently government of Jammu and Kashmir said that they have said the target ‘Har Ghar Nal Se Jal’, of 5774 Pani Samitis Village Water & Sanitation Committees (VWSCs) have been framed and 5427 Village Action Plans (VAPs) have been prepared in total 6887 villages of UT of J&K. A comprehensive action plan is being executed by the government to ensure water security by empowering local communities.

Gram Panchayat  Pani Samitis are being sensitized for inculcating a sense of ownership, hand holding by conducting regular meetings by Jal Shakti Department. Members of Pani Samitis have also been provided with FTK kits, and are being trained for conducting water quality tests on a regular basis.

Under the Mission, 2.16 lac households were covered during the year 2020-21. During 2021-22, 35920 Households have been provided Tap Water Connections so far. The coverage has increased from 35% in August, 2019 to 43% ending March, 2020 to 56.40% as on date, which is above the national average of 44.08%.

Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha said that every individual has the right to clean drinking water, sufficient water supply and basic services from the government.

Substantial progress has been made in increasing access to clean drinking water in the last one and half years, we are making efforts to provide access to safe water for people living in the villages and far flung areas.
